I originally captured this image of an Echinopsis blossom in color, but the form of the blossom is so unique and so striking that I felt the creative urge to convert it to black and white. I really wanted to remove the distraction of the cactus plant that the bloom sprang from and ensure that you could focus on its shape and detail. Notice the stamens at the center of the flower, and to the right, the tiny little flower that branches out. Notice the shape and texture of the petals and how those at the outer edges are a bit softer. I love the demonstration here of how a desert plant can have beautiful blossoms on par with more familiar flowers.
